Secrets can provide opportunities. Secrets can enlighten. Secrets can change lives.
Sometimes secrets cost years of life experience. Other times secrets are gained by failing.
Over the coming weeks, I will reveal secrets to life and business from America’s top business and life coaches.
I asked dozens of coaches one question:
What is a secret to to leading a successful life or business?
The responses I received are phenomenal.
Over 20 coaches provided responses, and I receive weekly new secrets.
Here are a few answers:
Whether it’s running a business, having a job, going to school, having a family, or anything the first step is defining what success looks like to you. It can be different for different people. Then becoming intentional about achieving the defined vision of the goal. When you’re intentional you no longer are diverted or distracted by the daily urgent demands we all encounter. You may be slowed down but if you’re focused on achieving your goal you will.
Determination. Absolutely determination. When you get kicked down, you have to get back up. When someone tells you ‘no’ you have to ask the question in a different way or try a different tactic or learn a different skill or PROVE YOURSELF until you get your ‘yes.’ You have to build a winning environment in support of your plight. You must be determined in forming an army that will support you, mobilizing key stakeholders and borrowing influence from others. You must stay up at night until your eyelids have no choice but to close in order to figure out what your next steps are. You must come up with so many solutions for your problems that you forget what your problems were to begin with. People who fail give up. People who live mediocre lives and have mediocre careers slow down or stop all together when it gets tough. Well, life and work and everything in between the time you wake up and the time you go to bed is going to be tough. It’s how you choose to move through this tough life that determines if you are going to be a winner. If you’re hungry enough you will find the determination to win.
Follow where you are guided, face your fears, never give up, and keep growing.
Everyone has their own definition of success. For me success means living passionately, authentically, and with a sense of purpose. Spending the time to uncover your passion and to make it part of your daily life is critical to living that kind of success. It requires getting comfortable with stretching ourselves, and that we embrace uncertainty as a necessary part of growth. We have to be willing to step out of our comfort zones. And of course, success requires that we take forward-moving action every day, setting small goals and remaining focused.
